It is so easy to lose ourselves in the busyness of the day today. For so many of us we have become conditioned by the world that we live in that we almost seem to be living on autopilot. Continuously overstimulated by electronics, social media, and mass consumerism we lose our sense of self-worth and submit to living our lives in a fog.
This my friends is no way to live and it has been my mission these last several months to find a way to gain a sense of mental clarity and live my best life!
4 Tips For Gaining Mental Clarity
Self-improvement is one of the most difficult AND rewarding undertakings we will likely ever take on (with the exception of raising kids!) It takes so much work, dedication, and commitment, BUT is so so worth the reward in the long run.
As I have embarked on this journey myself I have found these 4 tips for gaining mental clarity a fantastic place to start.
- Journaling: Journaling in any way shape or form is one of the most powerful tools you could ever pull out of your little toolbox of life skills. There are tons of different methods and the amazing thing about any form of self-improvement is that there is no wrong way! Whatever resonates with you is the right way. I have used journaling in a number of different strategies, good old fashioned notebook paper, sticky notes I carried around in my pocket (this is a great way to keep your affirmations close to you!) I have had fancy journals and bullet journals and my latest form of journaling has been through the TRELLO platform. I even use my Pinterest as a form of journaling. Simply put all journaling is organizing your thoughts, emotions, and ideas. Allowing yourself this outlet will prove to be a powerful step towards gaining the mental clarity you seek and the emotional outlet you may need.
- Exercise: It is kind of a no-brainer that daily exercise is critical to living a healthy life, yet so many people (myself included) really struggle with embracing this change. I found for myself that talking myself into it was the hardest part, the exercise part was actually easy! Last winter I enlisted my sister to help me get my exercise on, and I learned with that that I actually really enjoyed the time at the gym. (Until I got pregnant anyway.) I think that a lot of people make exercise into a bigger deal then it really needs to be. My suggestion, pick what you want to work on, set a simple goal to start, and keep it short and sweet. 30 minutes 3 times a week made all the difference in the world for me. You can most definitely add more if you would like but start with what is obtainable for you and don’t overdo it, otherwise, you will be unable to stick with it in the long run.
- Spend quality time outdoors: Rain, snow, or shine, I am outside every single day because we have livestock. However, I don’t think I could live any other way. I truly cannot even fathom how some people could never leave the house. Just as with exercise, sometimes getting out the door is the hardest part. A walk, 10 minutes in the sun on your deck, shoveling the sidewalk in the winter, or simply going to get the mail and taking in a few extra breaths of fresh air! GET OUTSIDE! You will experience so many great benefits, from better sleep to a better mood. It is totally worth it.
- Meditate: As with exercising, meditation is something so often put off simply because it seems harder than it really is. I like to spend 10 to 15 minutes first thing in the morning. Close your eyes, clear your mind, and focus on your breathing. This is one of those things that will get easier every day if you just stick to it!!
If you feel like you’re in a fog and aren’t quite sure how to gain your footing back under you, these 4 tips for gaining mental clarity are great starting points.
